Quick diagnostic – MID 130 PSID 27 FMI 8

Quick Diagnostic: MID 130 PSID 27 FMI 8

Initial Setup & Instructions

  • Safety: Ignition OFF before disconnecting components.
  • Pro Tip: For testing transmission fitment, use only 4 bolts (2 top, 2 bottom) and lock the output shaft/leave prop-shaft off.
  • Step 1: Run PWM Valves Clutch > Leak Test.
  • Step 2: Run PWM Valves Clutch > Performance Test.

Select your diagnostic path based on your test results:

Path 1: Air Leak Detected (After < Before)

1. Remove clutch control valve > Check rubber gasket for damage (Replace if needed) > Re-run leak test.
2. Same result: Replace valve > Re-run test.
3. Same result: Remove transmission > Submerge cylinder/hose assembly in water > Apply air to hose.
4. Check for bubbles: Hose (Replace), Coupling (Replace o-rings/housing), or Cylinder (Replace).

Path 2: Internal Solenoid Leak (After > Before)

Leaking clutch control valve (constant air supply to cylinder). Replace clutch control valve. Tests should now pass.

Path 3: Leak OK / Performance Fail

1. Fit known good control valve > Re-run tests.
2. Same result: Remove transmission > Physical inspection of clutch components > Replace as necessary > Refit.
3. Same result: Try another TECU.
4. If still failed: Restart diagnostic (no fault found).

Path 4: Error 44 (Clutch Operates Too Slow)

Possible software glitch or airflow restriction. Check all air pipes and fittings; ensure only original Volvo parts are fitted (incorrect fittings restrict flow). Once corrected, proceed to finalization.

Finalization

If tests pass but FMI 8 persists: Drive vehicle a few kilometers. If fault remains, perform a full Reprogramming and Calibration of the TECU.
